Candidates for Elected Office

We endorse candidates for political office that stand for the Green Party's 10 Key Values and the party platform.

2019 Endorsed Candidates

Lisa Middleman

Allegheny County District Attorney

From Ms. Middleman's campaign website, :

"Lisa Middleman is the lifelong public defender, criminal defense attorney, and devoted mother of two who will overhaul our broken District Attorney’s office."

The Green Party of Allegheny County (GPOAC) voted at its September 3 meeting to endorse independent candidate Lisa Middleman for District Attorney of Allegheny County. GPOAC applauds Ms. Middleman's platform positions in support of rehabilitation and diversion rather than retribution, consistent with GPUS core values of non-violence and social and economic justice.

Tara Yaney

Edgewood Borough Council

From Ms. Yaney's campaign website,

Tara Yaney has enjoyed living in Edgewood for 6 years and sees serving as borough council member as a way to give back to the community. Among her top priorities are environmental sustainability, public transit, and supporting inclusivity, transparency, and accountability in government. She is an avid bicyclist and ultimate frisbee player. When not active outdoors, Tara is a local musician, and plays flute with the Johnstown and Westmoreland Symphony Orchestras. She directs the Pittsburgh Concert Orchestra Junior Wind Ensemble and she also teaches many private students in the area. Tara has a Bachelors' degree in music from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelors' degree in physics from the University of Pennsylvania.

Riley Mahon

School Director, Upper St Clair School District

Riley Mahon is a current high school senior attending Upper St Clair High School. Riley is running to be a voice for students at the school district, advocating issues like later school start times, reforming guidance and health classes, encouraging the district to adopt renewable energy, and protecting students’ privacy rights from unreasonable search and seizure.

GPOAC also would like to thank Kelly Yagatich and Richard Weiss for considering a run for Allegheny County Council At-Large and County Executive, respectively, for 2019. Unfortunately, the thousands of signatures required by law -- thousands more than Republican or Democratic candidates -- to be placed on the ballot were not collected in time, and so neither candidate will appear on this ballot this November. We thank all of our volunteers for their work on ballot access this year, and look forward to more candidates next year!

Past Candidates

The Green Party of Allegheny County was proud to endorse and support Jay Ting Walker for state representative in the 23rd district in the 2018 election. Jay finished with about 10% of the vote, over 2300 votes! We would like to thank Jay for his hard work for his campaign and the Green Party in general as we look forward to a stronger 2019!

The Green Party of Pennsylvania had also endorsed Jay Walker, as well as statewide candidates: Neal Gale (US Senate), Paul Glover (Governor), Jocolyn Bowser-Bostick (Lt. Governor)! To learn more about the statewide candidates, see the GPPA press release. All of our candidates ran on a "Green New Deal" that put people and planet over profits.
